Week of October 3 - 7

     Hello wonderful dragon parents! This week in First Grade we will be celebrating our first week of October! In ELA we will be focusing on improving our reading and handwriting skills and we will began working on the 3 P's of Handwriting: Posture, Position and Pencil Grip. This will help lead to success in all subjects! In Math we are working on Understanding Subtraction and working on our fact families. In Science we will be learning about 3 types of energy; light, heat and sound energy. Also, in Social Studies we will be learning about "Family, Friends and Me", so get ready for some fun questions at home. In Spelling this week we will be learning about the short "U" words.

Our Spelling Words for the week are:
1) Up                    6) Tub          Bonus Words:
2) Nut                   7) Full          Under
3) Bug                   8) Pull          Blue
4) Hug                   9) Jump
5) Mud                  10) Us

       Don't forget parents that we have early release on Thursday, October 6th at 10:55am to allow for Parent Conferences. Please, it is not too late if you would still like to sign up for a conference time, I would love to be able to meet with as many parents as possible.

Dear First Grade Families,

I would like to take the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Megan Lawley and I am honored to be your child’s first grade teacher. This is my fourth year teaching and I am so excited to be here.

I am looking forward to working with you and your child in reaching his or her full potential. We will have many wonderful experiences and opportunities to learn and grow in the days ahead.

I believe that communication is the key to a great parent-teacher relationship. I encourage you to contact me if you have any questions or concerns at any time. I will also do my part by updating our class blog each week to update you on what we have been doing in class as well as things that are coming up. For individual concerns I will contact you by phone, send a note home or email you (if an email address is provided).

Please feel free in participating in your child’s first grade year as much as you are able. Helping hands are always appreciated. Whether it is to read a story to the class, helping with field trips or class parties, or any other participation will enrich our classroom experiences.

I am looking forward to a wonderful and exciting year with you and your child!!!
